CU Sports

With classes starting a mere two weeks ago, Buffs fans have had no shortage of sports news.  In the wake of CU’s Rocky Mountain Showdown victory against rivals Colorado State, other sports programs have been busy making their own headlines.

The CU Athletics Department recently extended its corporate partnership with Safeway, making the grocery store the exclusive grocery partner of the Colorado Buffaloes for the next three years.  This partnership, which has already lasted four years, has brought good publicity to CU Athletics, as well as a few great traditions.

Last year, the Safeway-sponsored CU Pink Game hosted to over 125 breast cancer survivors and their families. The event yeilded a $10,000 donation from Safeway to Boulder Community Hospital in support of breast health services.

The duo also used a CU Football game as the stage to honor veterans of the  Wounded Warriors Project as well as those Safeway employees who had served in the armed forces.

In other sports news, Pac-12 recently released the 2013-2014 Conference basketball TV package, and the Buffs are making some noise. CU’s men’s basketball team will be featured on the Pac-12 Network 14 times, the ESPN networks 11 times, and 3 times on Fox Sports 1. With a rigorous schedule this year, both in the Pac-12 Conference and in non-conference games, the Buffs are in for quite an exciting season.

The CU Women’s soccer team has begun their season with a program best 4-0 record after shutting out all four opponents so far this season.  Led by Anne Stuller and Brie Hooks, who have each had two-goal games, the Buffs are about to begin a weekend stint at the DU Invitational Tournament where they will play Alabama, who has a 2-1 record so far this season, and UT Martin, who is off to a 1-2-1 start this season. With four teams in the Buffs’ Pac-12 conference ranked in the top 25 teams in the country, this year should be an exciting season for CU Women’s soccer.

The CU Volleyball team has also started their season strong.  After two games against St. Mary’s, the teams split two games so the Buffs are 1-1 going into the Candlewood Suites Invitational hosted by Syracuse where CU will face Stony Brook, Oakland, Rutgers, and host Syracuse.
