The game was a replacement for the flooded-out Fresno State game Sept. 14. and on a gorgeous 60-degree sunny Boulder afternoon, we saw a glimpse of the Buffaloes’ future as they ran through and around FCS (formerly known as Divison II) Charleston Southern, 43-10.
This was the Buffs second win this season against and non-FBS team. Hey, we’ll take it.
All the buzz going into the week centered around the starting debut of true freshman quarterback Sefo Liufau, who settle down nicely going 14-of-20 for 198 yards, no turnovers, and a 60 yard touchdown pass to Paul Richardson who took a short slant route to the house. But it was fellow true freshman, Michael Adkins II, who had everyone buzzing after it was said and done.
Adkins II, who has been in a position battle all year with bruising sophomore tailback, Christian Powell, rushed for a school freshman-record four touchdowns and 137 yards as the Buffs rolled the over-matched Buccaneers.
The other CSU would score their final points right before halftime, capping a 15-play, 87-yard drive that milked 9:05 off the clock. The Colorado defense tightened things up in the second half, and the Buffs’ passing game became more effective, allowing the running game to open up even more.
Looking ahead, it’s back to reality and back to stout competition as the Buff’s take on the Arizona Wildcats this weekend for Homecoming. As of now, the Buffs are 15 point underdogs.
“We need to go get the one next week and if we do, that means November matters in Colorado,” coach Mike MacIntye said.
