Family Friendly Fall Activities

Hopefully everyone is enjoying fall and its cooler temperatures, pumpkin or apple flavored drinks and treats, and changing foliage.  Now that fall has arrived, here are some great fall activities to do with your little ones!

During the month of October, the privately owned Sunflower Farm (which is only open during select times of year) invites the public for a day of fall farm fun! They are open M- F: 9 to 1:00; $7 per person; under 12 months free; Food is not available. Sundays: 9-3:00; $10 per person under 12 months free; Food is available for extra fee. Includes haywagon ride, access to pumpkin patch, and occasionally live music.  I took my kids here during their May open season, and they enjoyed visiting the animals, climbing on hay bales and tree forts, swinging on hammocks, and lots of other fun activities!

Anderson Farms in Erie has a huge fall festival each year, welcoming thousands of guests to enjoy all of the fun farm activities. These include gourd launching, a barrel train, pumpkin picking, hayrides, a corn maze, and much more. Children 3 and under are free, and everyone else pays $10 Mon-Thurs or $12 Fri-Sun. Festival runs from September 24 – November 1, 2014. We went to Anderson last year, and my then-two-year-old son had a ball!

The eight-acre corn maze is one of the most attended in the country! Wind your way through acres of corn, view the design from two 15-foot tall illuminated bridges that overlook the giant Corn Maze, and watch the delight as younger children find their way through a special free McDonald’s Mini-Maze designed just for them. Fri-Sun Sept 19 – Nov. 1, 2014. Hayrides, and horse and pony rides will be available for an additional cost. An array of food vendors will offer some of your favorite fall foods, including freshly squeezed lemonade, funnel cakes, hotdogs and kettle corn. And don’t forget to come out during Pumpkin Fest to pick the perfect jack-o-lantern from the Gardens’ 10-acre patch. Oct 10-12, 9am-5pm each day.

Come visit Rock Creek Farm, where you can explore the pumpkin patch and choose a giant pumpkin, wind your way through the corn maze, feed the animals, play on the super slide, and much more!   Farm is open to the public 9am-6pm daily from September 27 – October 31, 2014. Pricing depends on what you want to do/see. Check the Farm’s website for details.
