Want to send a savory message to your Valentine?
Nothing Bundt Cakes, one of Boulder’s newest freshly baked sweet treats, is the ticket.
Not quite a year old here in Boulder, Nothing Bundt Cakes is still unknown to many, which adds the cherished element of surprise to the yummy taste.
Co-owned by mother-daughter team, Diane Ward and Deana O’Brien, Nothing Bundt Cakes offers nine flavors year-round, plus one feature flavor that changes every month or so.
What flavors do locals love most? Chocolate Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Raspberry, and Red Velvet. This month’s feature flavor is Chocolate Turtle, which, according to O’Brien, “is flying off the shelves.”
There is even a gluten free Chocolate Chip variety in the ‘Bundtlet’ and ‘Bundtini’ size, which I can personally vouch for: It is melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
What’s So Special?
“Our cakes are known for their moistness and our signature butter cream cheese frosting, which is the same on all of our cakes,” says O’Brien.
“We always have samples here in the bakery, so anyone who comes in can grab a piece of cake, and their expressions when they taste it are priceless.”
Baked daily, cakes are made with fresh ingredients butter, eggs, and cream cheese for the frosting. And, with over 40 designs to choose from, you can make the presentation suit your style.
Sweet Bundt Beginnings
With its first franchises on the scene in 2007, Nothing Bundt Cakes started when two women–franchise founders Debbie Shwetz and Dena Tripp–began baking and decorating bundt cakes in their Las Vegas garage.
Initial stores sprang up in California and Texas, and soon the decadent treat swept into 100 locations in 35 states.
Now with six stores across Colorado, O’Brien and Ward’s Boulder store marked the fourth, opening last Feb. 28.
Originally from upstate New York, daughter and mom came to Boulder in 1992, when the mom in the mother-daughter team, Diane Ward, and her husband were relocated by IBM. Soon, Ward’s second daughter also moved to Boulder. When IBM moved Ward and husband back to the east coast, the grown sisters decided to stay in their adopted homeland.
“Once my parents realized we weren’t going to move back east — and they became grandparents — they made Colorado their home, too,” says O’Brien.
One Perfect Gift
O’Brien notes Nothing Bundt Cakes are great for all occasions — from small birthday parties or business gifts to big corporate events.
“Last year we did several weddings by stacking our Bundtinis on a tower,” says O’Brien.
