What a scene in the town of Nederland! The only thing that was stiff at this festival was cryogenically perserved Grandpa Bredo, soon to be 109 years old and the inspiration for the event.
This was the fourteenth year of the event, but my first experience attending. Although the weather can be tricky this time of year up in Ned, the sun was shining all weekend allowing me to make the rounds to the many zany and wonderful events — from the polar plunge and frozen turkey bowling contest to the frozen T-shirt contest, the ever-so-popular coffin races, and Hearse parade.
The festival attracted nearly 20,000 visitors over the weekend and the crowd was as eclectic as the town of Nederland itself. Speaking with locals, it seems that Frozen Dead Guy Days is hitting its stride and will be a part of the town for many more years to come.
