A celebration of food as art! This week the Dairy Center is hosting a wonderful line-up of cooking competitions, art exhibition, and cinema.
Here are the featured events for the week of June 15:
June 18: The Art of Plating & Artful Hors d’oeuvres
5:00 –7:30 pm
An educational demonstration of the Art of Plating presented by Chef of the Stars Bob Sampson opens this event. Following this popular demonstration you’ll enjoy Artful Hors D’ Oeuvres created by four of Boulder’s leading chefs from The Kitchen, Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant, and Cantina Laredo as well as Chef Bob Sampson. These delicious bites will each be paired with wine provided by Bonterra Wine. Live music by Rebecca Moritzky, Harpist, adds to the fun of this unique food event.
June 19: The Artful Chef Competition hosted by Sterling Rice Group

6:30 – 8:30 pm
The Artful Chef competition has been called one of Boulder’s coolest events.Three chefs are each paired with a local artist and challenged to prepare a dish and table scape that wins votes as not only the most delicious, but also the most beautiful. Hosted in the event center and test kitchen of Sterling Rice Group in Downtown Boulder, this competition is unlike any other and includes free cocktails and small plates. Get your tickets here!
June 20: Taste of Art Gallery Opening
4:00 – 7:00 pm
There’s much to see, hear, and do at this opening event for the A Taste of Art gallery exhibition. California artist Pat Willard’s beautiful, serene solo show The Secret Life of Fruits and Vegetables will grace In-Focus Gallery. Polly Addison Exhibition Space and McMahon Gallery will hold exhibits of “art related to food” by artists from around the country.
Displays of fabulously decorated cakes will be shown by Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Shop our boutique of artisan-made table linens and ceramics and watch some of the area’s best, most colorful artists painting peinture sur le motif (painting [the food that] the eye sees) while enjoying music by jazz pianist Martin Fritter. Finally, we’ll be presenting awards for the crème de la crème of the art exhibit. Free, all ages event, no tickets required.
June 20: Screening of “American Wine Story” Followed by a Wine Tasting
There are plenty of obsessions in the world, but few endeavors attract as much devotion as wine. American Wine Story is a documentary about oenological aficionados who have taken their obsessions to the extreme, chasing their dreams with a bottle in one hand and a corkscrew in the other.
There will be a wine and cheese tasting following the film sponsored by Hazel’s Beverage World and The Cheese Course ( age 21+) Get your tickets here!
June 21: Barbecue, Blues, and Brews
McGuckin Hardware, 2525 Arapahoe Ave
11:00 am—4:00 pm
Hosted in the west lot of McGuckin Hardware, this is the perfect Father’s Day event featuring outdoor cooking demonstrations by Escoffier, grilling and smoking demonstrations, fun food, great beer provided by Boulder Beer, and Colorado’s best blues music featuring the Colorado Blues Society. You’ll want to come early and bring the family. Last year over 1,000 people joined the fun! Get your tickets here!
