It’s that special time again! Whittier International Elementary School is proud to host the 15th annual Whittier-Mapleton Garden Tour. Located in the historic and beautiful Mapleton Hill neighborhood of downtown Boulder, the Garden Tour is a tradition you won’t want to miss.

Boasting 140 year-old trees, roses of every hue, exotic plants, terraced landscapes, and stunning architecture across eight different properties, these magnificent private sanctuary gardens are only available for viewing during the tour, once a year. And this year, you’ll even have chance to peek at new gardens that have never been featured before.

The Garden Tour is being held on Saturday, June 3 from 10 am to 3 pm. Pack up the family and make a full day out of it by attending the Mapleton Hill Rummage Sale, a neighborhood-wide sale of used treasures that spans 65 front yards of Mapleton Hill homes, from 8 am to 2 pm.

Who knows, the inspiration to dig in the dirt and plant perennials might just hit you during the tour, and you’re likely to find the right tools to make it happen at the rummage sale.

When you arrive for the tour, you will join the other attendees on the corner of Mapleton and 8th Street at the “Hive,” a newly introduced tented area to pick up programs, buy tickets, and receive giveaway bags (for the first 500 ticket holders).

Also stop there to sit and relax, hear live music, and find plenty of fun activities for kids. You can also enjoy treats from food trucks including Sweet Cow Ice Cream, The French Twist, BVSD’s Munchie Machine, and Spruce Confections.

The Garden Tour’s proceeds directly benefit Whittier International Elementary School and is the school’s largest fundraiser of the year. Built in 1882, Whittier is Boulder’s second-oldest school. One of the few schools to offer the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) in Boulder, it is respected for its rigorous coursework, diverse international student body, and long-serving commitment to excellence.

“Whittier International School is a jewel in the Boulder community and the annual garden tour is outstanding,” says RE/MAX of Boulder Realtor Rich Gribbon and sponsor for the tour. “My daughter completed the IB program at Whittier and she’s now studying international relations at the University of Denver. Whittier gave her a fantastic start.”

The international focus at Whittier makes it a uniquely welcoming place for students from over 20 different countries, bringing world knowledge and culture into the academic curriculum at a young age, and teaching students Spanish as a World Language.

“I live in the neighborhood and love Whittier, my two children went there, and I’ve met so many amazing parents and teachers during our time at Whittier,” remarks Digger Braymiller, RE/MAX of Boulder Realtor and sponsor for the tour. “My kids often say how they wish they were still in elementary school. It was an amazing experience for all of us.”

“The Garden Tour is a perfect kick-off to celebrate the beginning of our beautiful Colorado summers and gardens, and has been enjoyed by people young and old for 15 years now,” said Garden Tour Committee leader Megan Dubofsky.

Come out to support the school and the wonderful neighborhood around it. Purchase your Garden Tour tickets here. Tickets are $15 if purchased before June 3, and $20 at the booth on-site.
