Boulder Valley loves music — making it and taking it in.
When we’re looking for the inside perspective on local and visiting bands, we tune into Second Story Garage.
SSG is an innovative recording-studio-slash-music-blog that entices outstanding musicians to its makeshift studio, records their performances in high quality audio and video, then draws out their idiosyncrasies through interviews posted on its website and newsletter.
A warning: don’t go to the website until you have some time on your hands. It’s hard to leave. With nearly 200 videos of performances and interviews, SSG is a non-stop musical vortex.
Operated by what is arguably the epi-center of Colorado media – Prarie Mountain Publishing (the people behind The Denver Post, Daily Camera, Longmont Times-Call and many others) – SSG reflects the tastes of its host Quentin Young, a writer for the Times-Call, who shares his palpable passion for music here.
Video and written posts by Young and his former partner on the blog Ashley Dean reveal subjects from angles wide and minute.
The only way closer to the music is a live performance. You can find out about those by subscribing to SSG’s newsletter, which covers breaking news on the Colorado music scene.
