Boulder’s Share-A-Gift spreads holiday joy to local kids who might otherwise miss out |
Year after year since 1972, the Share-A-Gift organization has made it possible for all Boulder County children to have new toys and other holiday delights, even when Santa can’t afford the goods.
By the time some working families among us cover the basics – food, housing and clothing – there is no money left for children’s holiday presents. Share-A-Gift takes up that challenge and mobilizes the community to make sure every local child receives some holiday cheer. The all-volunteer organization fulfills the wishes of 1,600 local girls and boys from newborns to age 14.
The formula is straightforward: the community donates gifts, and Share-A-Gift distributes them to families who need them most. This is where you come in:
BRING A TOY to RE/MAX of Boulder or one of many community collection sites
RE/MAX of Boulder offices at 2425 Canyon Drive and 1320 Pearl Street will receive your gift donations through December 18. The drive accepts new and gently used unwrapped toys, bikes and books (no toy weapons, please). In addition to RE/MAX of Boulder offices, other collection sites are listed here.
This massive community giving event peaks just before Christmas, when Share-A-Gift invites Boulder Valley School District children in need to its shop to select a present. An army of volunteers sorts, organizes and distributes the loot. This is a fabulous opportunity for student volunteers and big groups (church youth groups, for example). More volunteers are needed – go here to learn more.
Share-A-Gift is our December Featured Friend. Watch for more news on this effort all month.
