Word Up

Visual and spoken word arts join forces this Friday during NoBo Art District’s First Friday Studio Tour

NoBo Art District Creates a Verbal-Visual Buzz

This Friday’s NoBo Art District Studio Tour features a unique verbal twist.

The slate of studios is as rich as ever, with painters, sculptors and performers opening up their creative spaces to the public from 6 – 9 p.m. this Friday, April 3rd.  The twist comes as spoken word artists join in, presenting verses inspired by – or inspiring – visual works.

That means Boulder poets, songwriters, storytellers and rappers will echo paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works, creating a not-to-miss cacophony of expression.

“It’s a great way to shake up your notion of what visual artist and poets can inspire in one another,” says Annette Coleman, artist and board president of NoBo Art District.

It may rain/snow on Friday, but cover up and head out.  It’s an ideal date night, girls night, friends night out – and a great way to see innovative and undiscovered art. Choose a handful of studios to see from NoBo’s studio tour map.  You can’t go wrong. (Hint: Grab a bite before or after your tour at Bacco Trattoria & Mozzarella Bar, which buzzes in casual ambience and serves plush Italian fare.)

To experience all of the verbal-visual collaborations in one place and time, attend Art Speak 2015 on Saturday afternoon from 3 – 5:30 in the Blue Barn at 1360 Sumac. Art Speak is open to the public and will include all artistic participants.
