Local kids set to compete in the YMCA’s 4th annual Strong Kids Triathlon
This terrific kids-only event is as fun to watch as it is to join. Kids ages 2 to 15 are organized into age groups and swim, bike and run their way to glory.
Local Olympic triathletes Greg and Laura Bennett are attending to cheer kids on and award medals at the finish line.
“We love seeing young kids getting involved in our sport,” Greg said.
“My advice to the athletes is to just go out and have some fun,” Laura added. “Enjoy the competition and test yourself.”
Kids will race in appropriate skill-level heats organized by age groups. Heats include one or more laps in the pool, on trikes or bikes, and around the turf field. Every athlete leaves with a medal, t-shirt and a great memory.
Proceeds from Strong Kids benefit the Y’s scholarship funds to help people afford vital services (like quality after-school care for kids of single working parents).
As of this posting, there is still time to sign up. Hurry though; the event is capped at 300 participants.
