RE/MAX of Boulder agent, Mary Huffman, has been a member of University of Colorado’s University Women’s Club for six years. Starting as a board member, Huffman now holds the club president position.
In its inaugural years, the club was used primarily for socialization and was exclusively for female CU professors and wives of professors. Now open to the public, University Women’s Club raises funds for scholarships granted to what Huffman describes as “nontraditional students.” These students, for a multitude of reasons, decided to go back to school after a hiatus earlier in their university career. Scholarships are open to both men and women and recipients are asked to share their story at the annual club scholarship luncheon.
The social aspect of the club has not been deemed outdated, however. The club still boasts interest groups that range from hiking to linguistics. With so many to choose from, there’s a group to suit any of the club’s 300+ members.
The club also hosts five luncheons every year in which local guest speakers are invited to discuss topics that range from meditation, to space travel, to newly published books. “It’s interesting to hear what’s going on in our own backyard,” Huffman explains, “because the university has such a huge influence on the city of Boulder.”
Mary encourages community members to check out the University Women’s Club website for more information.
