The Longmont Farmers Market, a seasonal marketplace for locally grown produce, locally produced food products and local artisans, will host its first-ever Pepper Fest tomorrow.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont.
The fourth of five seasonal food festivals planned by Boulder County Farmers Markets this season, the Longmont Pepper Fest will feature the Hottest Pepper Contest with entries from eight local farms, a tasting with sweet and spicy varieties, a Pepper Fest photo booth, and cooking demonstrations from Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Free kid’s activities will include a chili pepper piñata with pepper-themed prizes, an educational matching game with different varieties, and face-painting.
Local farms will sell over 40 types of peppers, from favorites like Bell, Jalepeño and Sweet Banana, to rare varieties like Jimmy Nardello, Dynamite, Hungarian Hot Wax and Aji Crystal. Vendors will showcase specialty pepper-inspired dishes for the celebration, including Hatch Green Chili Papusas, Wood-Fired Stuffed Bell Peppers, Pepper Kabobs, Smoked Pueblo Chili Chicken Tacos, Roasted Red Pepper Meringues, and pepper pastas, salsas, and breads. Miller Farms, Pope Farm, and Full Circle Farm will be roasting fresh chili peppers at the festival.
The Boulder and Longmont farmers markets are growers-only markets that support local farmers, ranchers and food producers. For more information about Boulder County Farmers Markets, visit bcfm.org.
