Prepare for one of the most sensational parties of the year brimming with amazing costuming, nostalgia, and revelry at the Boulder Airport this Saturday, June 18.
It’s huge, it’s enthralling — and it’s rollicking! The magical 1940s World War II Era Ball being held this Saturday, June 18 at the Boulder Airport will sweep you off your feet into another era. In its eighth year, the large-scale charity ball will transport 2,000-plus guests back to the 1940s through music, costumes, a pin-up girl contest, food, drinks, and dancing. The annual sell-out event raises money for The Colorado 10th Mountain Division, The Rocky Mountain Honor Flight Colorado and The Spirit of Flight Center Colorado.
A USO-style event, the 1940s WWII Era Ball will feature two stages with live music reminiscent of the era from four bands including Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles Jazz Band, Queen City Jazz Band, The Hot Tomatoes Dance Orchestra and the Jeremy Mohney Swing Band. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle and dance among 1940’s classic cars, WWII planes, military vehicles, and re-enactors. The evening’s entertainment will also include performances by The Victory Belles from The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, and performers impersonating Bob Hope, Red Skelton, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante and the Andrews Sisters. A multitude of swing dancers and performers, as well as a Polynesian show with Kalama Polynesian Dancers complete with fire and knife dancers, elaborate traditional costumes and Hula and Haka lessons will complete the entertainment roundup.
A highlight of the 2016 WWII Era Ball is the 2016 Miss Vintage US Pin Up Contest hosted by Chris Parente and Kathie J from Fox 31’s “Everyday Show,” with Raquel Villanova of 9News serving as one of the judges.
Creator Khyentse James remarks, “Every year we welcome guests to the Ball who are passionate about the era and have traveled to Boulder just for this special event. We also have many World War II Veterans as honorary guests, and folks who love to see the old planes and vehicles, or just enjoy the music and nostalgia.”
“We are proud to host this annual celebration of ‘The Greatest Generation’ and the iconic figures of their era,” continued James. “Not only is this event a great party, but it is also an opportunity to educate and inspire future generations and raise money for The Colorado 10th Mountain Division, The Rocky Mountain Honor Flight Colorado and The Spirit of Flight Center Colorado. Thus far we have donated more than $60,000 to our charities.”
The 1940s WWII Era Ball kicks off at 4 pm on Saturday, June 18, with general admission doors opening with a red carpet paparazzi arrival at 5 pm.
