The Great Harvest Bread Co. is a locally owned and operated bakery and eatery. The Boulder location doors opened in May of 1983 (nearing a 30 year anniversary) by Scott and Sally Creevy.
Scott, a Boulder native, had no culinary or restaurant background when he decided to pursue his interest in starting his own company. With the support of his wife and sister-in-law they decided to open up a Great Harvest Bread Co. in Boulder. I asked Scott how opening the doors in 1983 went and he said, “starting a businesses is always hard” but that after many years of trial and error they have become more stable with the business. Scott said that with the ever changing ways of business they are always striving to stay ahead of the curve but stay true their products and their loyal customers.
Located in the shopping plaza on Folsom and Arapahoe, Great Harvest has always had its businesses anchored in that location and has no plans to move.
Being an active part of the Boulder community, Scott and Great Harvest cater to the everyday Boulderite. For the breakfast crowd they team up with Pete’s coffee and offer a full espresso bar and muffins. They also make gluten-free breads for that growing demographic. You can find Great Harvest bread at local grocery stores and are also used by some local restaurants.
Scott’s favorite part of running his own business is the fact that he can bake just about any concoction that he wishes! For example: For 4th of July they dreamt up a 4th of July bread that they offer for 4 weeks leading up to the holiday. The bread is a combination of cherries, blueberries, and blackberries. Mmm, sounds delicious.
